Our History

As a Section 17 Federal Corporation, the Tule River Economic Development Corporation (TREDC) is helping set the national standard for tribal economic development through long-term job creation and diversified revenue growth. Rooted in the cultural traditions of the Tule River Indian Tribe—where stories such as the Hairy Man speak to creation, protection, and balance—TREDC approaches economic development with a deep respect for people, land, and future generations.

The original intent was to create an organization tasked with developing jobs while building a diverse revenue base to benefit the people of the Tule River Reservation and the surrounding community. At a time when many tribes focused primarily on gaming, the Tule River Indian Tribe made a strategic decision to leverage gaming revenues as a foundation for broader, sustainable economic expansion.

Having been established years prior to the advent of Indian gaming, TREDC is uniquely positioned to help the Tribe diversify its revenue potential and expand employment opportunities for Tribal members. This long-term approach reflects a guiding principle found throughout Yokuts tradition: responsible stewardship that safeguards the community while enabling growth.

To meet the demands of its mission, the Tule River Economic Development Corporation is currently involved in several ventures. While each project is diverse in nature, every initiative is designed to build on the unique advantages and resources of the Tule River Indian Reservation and the surrounding region—strengthening economic resilience while protecting what matters most.

Looking ahead, achieving SBA Tribal 8(a) designation will allow TREDC to expand this impact even further. With SBA 8(a), TREDC will be positioned to pursue a wider range of federal contracting opportunities that support revenue diversification, new business lines, and job creation. Most importantly, this designation will help TREDC continue its role as a guardian of long-term prosperity—creating sustainable pathways for Tribal members through workforce development, career advancement, and enduring economic opportunity for the Tule River reservation and the region.
